Javier Ramirez (he/him), 22, is in his final year of school at Witchita State University (WSU) Technical College. He is currently in school for welding and plans to start his own business one day. Ramirez is also on the esports team at WSU Tech.

The games he plays are League of Legends, Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty, and Valorant. In order to ensure growth, Ramirez said every week or so he works on learning a new skill until he can master it and move on to the next.

How has it been being on a collegiate team?

“It has been fun, great, and stressful. I wouldn’t change a thing,” said Ramirez.

What is your gamertag and how did you decide on it?

“javithejavelin Is my IGN (in-game name), and I obtained it because in COD MW 3 (OG) there is a rocket launcher named Javelin that I would always use as my secondary and got proficient at. Javi is a nickname from my family, so I just combined the two,” said Ramirez.

Do you have any advice for young gamers?

“Games are more than just pixels; they teach you morals, how to overcome difficult tasks and problem-solving skills. A video game can have the same impact on you as a book,” said Ramirez.
