Tyler Broderick (he/him) serves as the NJCAAE compliance associate, a role he began almost two years ago. His involvement with esports started with his passion for video games. When he joined the NJCAA National Office, he had the chance to assist with the esports side of things at the NJCAAE. He accepted the opportunity, and the rest is history.
“I jumped at the opportunity to diversify my athletics background. Working with the NJCAAE is important to me because I still love to play video games. Being able to add this experience to my professional resume is huge for me and I enjoy what I do,” said Broderick, “The best part of my job with the NJCAAE is being able to develop the esports side of collegiate athletics. This is a relatively new area of collegiate athletics, and it only gets bigger and better every year. The challenge of developing a sustainable collegiate esports league is part of the fun of working in this area.”
Broderick is excited about the accomplishments he has achieved in his role with both the traditional side at the NJCAA and the NJCAAE. He has successfully incorporated several compliance practices from traditional athletics into the NJCAAE, particularly refining the audit process. This process requires institutions to submit their eligibility documents for review, aiming to enhance structure and accountability throughout the league.
“I love the NJCAAE. I definitely enjoy spending time working on things to help develop the league into the best and most organized version it can be. I enjoy watching some matches of the game titles that I play. The talent in the NJCAAE is already through the roof and it gets better every year,” said Broderick.
